Born the youngest of four children to a Cuban father and Salvadorian mother, I had an amazing childhood growing up surrounded by a loving family in Wilton, Connecticut. I attended Our Lady of Fatima school through sixth grade, graduated Wilton High School, and went onto earn a BA from Boston College, where I met my husband James.
Jim and I lived and worked in New York City, where I helped run the Columbia University Senate, an advisory board to the Trustees of the University. Seeking to start a family, we moved back to Connecticut and closer to family. I tested the waters in several different industries but none stuck until my dream job came with the birth of my son, James Christian, and the title of "Mom."
In 1989, we settled in Stratford. As a stay-at-home mom and a newcomer to Stratford, I met many parents like myself, looking for the best educational options for their children. I felt profoundly fortunate to find St. James School and grateful that my son was offered a spot in Kindergarten.
My husband and I had many discussions about the decision to pay for school. I was completely confident in the value of Catholic education, while my husband was focused on the financial security of our family. If you ask us both today, we are in complete agreement that our son's Catholic education, starting with his foundation at St. James, was the wisest money we had ever spent and the best investment we could possibly have made for his future. After St. James, Jimmy continued to choose Catholic education at St. Joseph High School and Boston College. Today, Jimmy enjoys life in the 'big apple' and working as an attorney.
When I first arrived at St. James as a young parent, I never imagined that I would be here decades later. Two weeks into the school year, in September of 1994, Mrs. Potts, the Principal, mentioned to me that she needed a new School Secretary. I was thrilled to take on the challenge and all these years later, I continue to feel the same! I have always done my best to serve our Principal, teachers, parents, and students, and feel quite privileged to do so.
I am blessed to have my three "Jameses" in my life -- my husband James, my son James, my St. James Community!
