St. James prides itself on a commitment to academic excellence for all of our students. At the Middle School level, your child will receive a rigorous curriculum directed and outlined by the Diocese of Bridgeport.
In Middle School, students will have the opportunity to be placed in accelerated Mathematics. Honors Math incorporates Prealgebra for sixth grade, algebra in seventh grade and Geometry for qualified eighth graders.
English Language Arts (ELA) is a very important part of our Middle School curriculum. Students in 6th-8th will have two blocks of ELA classes. One class will focus on Literature and the other on Writing. Students will master reading comprehension and fine-tune their writing skills while developing an understanding of all of the different genres of literature.
Science at the Middle School level exposes students to hands-on learning during labs, STEM experiments, educational field trips, and classroom lectures. Students will learn how to complete group projects as well as individual assignments. History and Social Studies instruction at St. James relies heavily on lively classroom discussion amongst students, led by their teacher. Students will gain an understanding of the evolution of World History along with U.S. Civics.
Students in all grade levels will have classes in Faith Formation, Health, and Physical Education. They will study World Languages, Art and Music. They will also have the opportunity to play strings, wind or percussion instruments in our Band Program or learn to play the Ukulele in our Ukulele Club.
